I think Kara did well,considering all my fumbling. We went off to park to do turns and figure 8's. when i watched the video i was supprused how many times my foot work was wrong. these two videos are done with friend next door. not correct, but practice. she loses mind with known or unkown people.
Weeelllll....the dog is fine; the courageous and valiant handler needs some work-:)

ReplyDeleteYou are trying so hard to do things right, there is noticeable improvement in your handling skills as you are cognizant of what needs to be done and striving to do so.
Here is my feedback:
1) DO NOT BOW ON THE RECALL. AGAIN, DO NOT BOW ON THE RECALL.
2) After Week2, the verbal "Sit" ceased. Yet, you continue to do so. You handicap the AS understanding in the learning dog when you give them that verbal crutch of "Sit". They know to Sit when you Halt, your 3-step Halt footwork and the KISS tell them plainly, 'Put your butt on the ground now.' Stop handicapping Kara.
3) On the Stand, command, "Stand". I can't hear that in these videos at all?
4) On the Stand, 'set' her shoulders, then you get into Heel position, 'set' her shoulders, command, "Stay" and then move around her. NICE WORK on repositioning the leash on your Stand circles!
5) On the "Down", which Down command is Kara to believe? The 1st "Down", the 2nd "Down", the 3rd "Down" or the 4th "Down". Yes, I counted. STOP REPEATING YOUR COMMANDS OR YOU TRAIN THE DOG TO IGNORE THE FIRST COMMAND. Got it?
6) Man, I saw a forward diagonal right step correction for when Kara was out of heel position. Ah-ha - you DID learn that Week 5 mechanic from watching me work Kara and at 1:19 your forward diagonal right step correction was FLAWLESS!
7) Excellent thinking and maneuvering her after her Stand with a "Heel" and an immediate Left Turn on the table.
8) BIGGEST ISSUE? Your "J" loop is rarely where it needs to be as Kara loves to rubber neck so she pulls the leash out of the necessary "J" loop position. The fix for that is where your right hand is as you have to adjust it promptly every time she's pulled your "J" loop out of where it needs to be. Review my videos working her from Monday. We will discuss this in class tomorrow.
As messy as this EXAM is, and it IS messy (handler), this is a Pass. However, I truly believe you and Kara should redo this EXAM and post before class tomorrow at 1:00. You CAN do better which will help Kara do better. Please redo this EXAM.
But vast improvement Kim, VAST improvement.
