Quite the day today. Today I did not start off with Hannah doing Recalls. Instead, I just went straight into Longe Line as we had Kim/Kara doing the same.
Wowzers, these videos tell the story.
Hannah kept pestering Sugar until he snapped at her, multiple times, until she figured out that LL work is NOT play time and she needed to cease her inappropriate behavior.
In this video, Hannah has a hissie fit temper tandrum. She is attributing the constant collar corrections to the LL and repetitively puts it into her mouth. This is common for any dog with a mouth that needs 'something, anything' to do with it, but Hannah is pulling, growling and tugging at the LL. Absolutely do NOT want that to continue as if she gets loose by biting the LL through, her Recall isn't strong enough for her to come back. I don't want her to succeed in damaging the LL and running away, so I do the Week 2, "OUT!" on her several times. When that isn't fixing her insistence on biting the LL, I then simply walk the line, so close to the snap bolt she has no way to get her mouth on the LL and stand on the line and let her wear herself out fighting the pressure of the collar. Eventually, she gives it up and we are able to end on a High Note of success.
And then it was Quiet Time. What a hoot that was!

Finally, it was time to load up and take Hannah home as I was beyond cold, tired, and miserable.
Yes that was quite a workout for dogs and handlers alike. I don’t know who is more self willed. Hanna with her throwing a fit or Kara, with her squirm for over an hour with quiet time. She does quite time at home just fine. Not so with other dogs in the vicinity. I have learned from todays session that I have to be quicker to release my safety line and move faster. My little dog is fast.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a challenging training session. Kara is FAST and Hannah is opiniated. Good match!
