And the punch line to this true story? Pree's heart was damaged from the impact which was discovered when I had her heart assessed by a cardiac care vet specialist to breed Pree and Boaz. The vet her a heart murmur, then the echocardiogram uncovered mild valve dysplasia. Dr. Negola said she never had a heart murmur before the car accident, it was a direct result of her getting hit by the car. That accident damaged Pree forever and totally altered any ability to ever breed her.
Could it have been prevented with Wayne knowing how to use the ecollar and doing a "SIT" command? Yes, absolutely yes.
A year plus later, the week before Thanksgiving 2018, Pree's right shoulder blew out. After an extensive visit to VOSM, then months of vet visits with Dr. Negola, 6 months of hobbles, meds, laser treatments and underwater treadmill, Pree's Iliopsoas muscle pulled and caused her to stop doing anything until another trip to Dr. Negola. AND her right shoulder blew out again-:( More meds, laser, restricted activity and an MRI. I thought at that vet appt, going over her MRI results that Pree would have to be put down. My last effort was to schedule her to see a renowned surgeon. So, this week, July 10, 2019, Pree and I went to get Dr. Prostredny's professional opinion.

It WAS Good News, sort've?
Pree had her appt with Dr. Prostredny yesterday. Dr. P is a renowned surgeon and said Pree is not a candidate for surgery. He gave her a steroid shot into the shoulder and she is grounded for 3 weeks to see if that will decrease the inflammation more than the current round of meds and laser.
Pree will live out her life as a 'retired from working' pet Lab taking slow walks on leash and when possible, doing retrieves in open water. There is no way to heal or repair or fix her shoulder enough to get her back into doing field work or even obedience work as the turns are to much pressure on her shoulder.
So, my beloved Pree is officially retired at the young age of 4.
While my mind is thrilled she will live a good life, my heart is breaking 💔 at the reality this beautiful Pree, my athletic Pree, my loves to work Pree, is retired. I feel sad and so right now am grieving at the loss of what was and what could have been with Pree. I can't see the future so no idea what I will do with my Pree. I am trusting God He has a grander plan, but this is hard for me.
Ugh...I just want to turn the clock back before the car accident (the source of these injuries) and have Pree healthy again. Unfortunately, I have no skill set on turning the clock back, so will grieve for a while as I call out to God to show me what's next for my beloved, now fully retired, Pree.
My go-to Scripture is Romans 8:28, For we know ALL things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

So, the ecollar training CAN not only save a dogs life, it can prevent injury. Pree's career and future ended with the car accident that could have been avoided with an ecollar trained handler.
