Week Two left training turns

Week Two

Week 2 is uploaded

Looking forward to today's videos when they get uploaded. Please note that Week 2, Days 1/2 and 3/4 are uploaded, I will upload Week 2, Days 5/6 of the KISS + Sit Correction Sunday morning.  The Week 2 EXAM will be posted Monday morning and due by Tuesday noon.

And here's the Hannah LL with staunch "OUT!" Link to LL with staunch OUT corrections as well as Hannah's 'monster' Link to Hannah's monster video lesson.

Practice with Fido as you will learn so much faster than trying to learn with your dog.  Week 2 is an overwhelming week so remember to just step on the leash when you've forgotten everything, to do the arm crossing thing - both ways, laugh at yourself, breathe and start again.

An important photo

WHAT an important photo. Recognize Hannah has 12' of dragging line, she COULD lunge towards LuLu on her left or try to get to Sugar on Jessi's right side. Yet, SHE NOTICES, BUT CHOOSES TO NOT LUNGE AND INSTEAD REMAIN CLOSE TO HER HANDLER, JESSI.
Aww...THAT is exactly what correct LL training teaches the learning dog, ignore sucking towards something else (no matter HOW close) and instead maintain personal comfort by remaining in correct Heel position.

Lesson learned?
YES.
Atta girl, Hannah!

Yesterday was a pivotal day in Hannah's education

Link to Week 2, Day 3

Kara second group lession

I found out today that I am not being consistent and quick enough on my corrections with Kara. She is not paying attention to me like is expected of her. Jessie was very good to coach me. I was still not getting it done, so Roxanne had her demonstrate. She had Kara paying attention in less than 10 minutes. I Wish I had taken a video. We are going to work very hard this week and get family and friends to help with distractions.

Week 1 (officially): LL done in open field

 Class,

This week is the same as last week EXCEPT the LL work is done in open fields.  Remember -

Days 1/2 = low levels of distractions

Days 3/4 = medium levels of distractions

Days 5/6 = high levels of distractions.

Today in class was your Day 1 and the lesson was off the charts in terms of HIGH PLANTED DISTRACTIONS.  Kara and Hannah had to work against each other, other dogs, Sugar and Lulu, a moving trash can (Kara's monster right now) AND a dead duck inside a kennel. Quite the planted distraction setup indeed.

NICE STAYING WITHIN SAFETY ZONE HANNAH!

Here we see the much desired 'check -in' from Hannah.

You can SEE what Hannah is wanting to do - charge Redd, but the prior 45 minutes of LL work has convinced her to ignore her instinct to charge.  Redd won't even look at her.

There will be an EXAM at the end of this week, and you must pass it to proceed undo Week 2.

This is an important week as last week was merely an introduction.

QUIET TIME SUCCESS AT LAST!

Have fun, post videos if you want my feedback and pointers.

Quiet Time in real life situations

 More Quiet Time

Roxanne said Hannah needs more QT practice so I am ramping it up. (easy with COVID life) She was doing amazing at 20 minutes then I realized a pizza was starting to burn in the oven and no one could deal with it as they were downstairs so I had to jump up and break QT (UGH!) but I got up and told Hannah to wait.  SHE STAYED!! the whole time I took the pizza out and turned off the oven.  I still started my timer over but I considered this a huge win....

Hi friends, I am enjoying this training from a different view due to my knee which is super disappointing and crushing personally but I am trying to make the best of it.  I am watching the videos a ton and making notes (I even made a whole notebook so I can refer to things) and I will be attending classes once COVID leaves my household.  Heres my pics, sorry for no park pics to show the huge grass area or the alleyway areas, but I am ill.  I am glad we have the park nearby, however!  I will be interacting as much as possible.  I am humbled and grateful to be a part of this and to have Roxanne and Jessi training Hannah.  We are so pleased.  I am also super thankful to my husband for making this all possible with my knee situation.  Blessings!

1st training/ practice session

Questions: We went to park to train/practice. She lunged twice, I did right about turn and she stopped that. She kept getting on right side I would walk the line get her back on left side. She would go back to right side repeat putting her back to left side. Not sure I’m doing this right. The other thing is after hitting the end of line a couple of times she would not bolt but still run ahead of me a few feet and wait for me to catch up then run ahead some more. I’m walking as fast as I can. She can travel.

Expectations

I just read material on first week and watched video. I’m so excited to think my little Decker Terrier will behave like those dogs in video 6 weeks from now. Right now she is better described as a Tasmanian devel. Not mean but busy and will chew anything up in minutes if you don’t catch her.

Today's Lesson 1

The ILL (Introduction to LL) lesson is uploaded. Please read and understand clearly what you are to do with your dog. KMODT (Koehler Method of Dog Training) is incredibly reliable when the curriculum is followed.  So, a good way to remember it is 'nothing added, nothing taken away.' If you can follow this curriculum exactly as it is outlined and taught - you will be astonished at the results you have with your dog.

Videos from today will be uploaded once Jessi can do so.

I thoroughly enjoyed the class today, hope you did also. Today is your Day 1 so you need to finish the hour of ILL required for today.

Statistically, my experience is that 'those who Blog consistently, post videos and photos, and ask questions will graduate.' So, please post often so I can provide feedback and help you succeed.

Let this training journey begin.
